DEINA

BIO
Singer/songwriter Deina can be described as an alternative R&B artist with an explosive sexy, sweet melodic sound. Her dynamic vocals often alternate from a soothing angelic, soulful tone to a powerful belting falsetto. Deina’s unique vocal riffs are inspired by her listening to Greek singers growing up. Her mother, being of Greek origin would always listen to the singers around Deina. Her lower register brings a soothing earthy feel, her laid-back flow and melodic structure hail from her father’s Jamaican roots. He would play a lot of reggae music during her childhood.

Raised in New Cross, South-East London which at the time was a very rough area notoriously named “ghetto” known for the infamous gang war between the boys from New Cross and Peckham, an area popularised by rapper Giggs. Deina remembers gravitating to Hip Hop very early because of this. Deina was part of a Girl Group alongside her two sisters and attained her first label offer at the tender age of 9. It was her love for music that kept her off the streets by virtue of always being in the studio or rehearsing. The Girl Groups' first deal came as a result of Deina’s tenacity, approaching a manager from Virgin Records outside of her father's workshop! Coming from a musical and creative family, she has expressed herself through music since the age of 5.

THE GROUPCHAT EP
Deina showcased her talent as a Solo creative artist with her debut EP “The Group Chat”. The EP is all about what really goes down in girl group chats, recording her personal conversations and turning them into interludes for each song.

Deina worked on 4 tracks with hit producer P2J, known for his recent work with other incredible artists like Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Burna Boy, Snoh Aalegra and many more. “The Group Chat” was written and executively produced by Deina. The group chat was Premiered by NOISY, who also did a full interview on the project. Then R&B presenter ACE from BBC1xtra interviewed Deina on the EP and Deina performed one of her songs at the UEA.

When listening to this EP you’ll feel like you’ve entered an exclusive "girlfriends only” setting. Deina has captured different sides of women that are not often explored or celebrated in popular culture. Yet, these conversations are so common in women’s “group chats!”. You hear intimate lyrics that breakdown social stereotypes of what it means to be, think and feel like a woman. It’s a judgement free zone in Deina's poetic yet raw lyrics. Conversations between girlfriends relating to each other’s private experiences are laid bare.

THE JOURNAL EP
With fans saying they felt like they were right there in the room with Deina and her girls, going through their issues together. This encouraged Deina to push the envelope even further in her new and very vulnerable EP “The Journal” where she breaks down the barriers between artist to fans even more.
Instead of writing her deepest most private inner thoughts in her Journal, where naturally no one would see them. She records them and uses it as interludes for her songs. While in the process of dealing with a heartbreaking relationship, you will hear real tears, personal voice messages, and even sensual moans. If you thought the Group Chat was controversial, this project takes it to new heights.

Deina lays it all out, this project gets even sexier and sadder. Deina realizes she has to let the relationship go, ending the project with a lesson and message for all; you have to love yourself in order to love somebody else. Deina’s impressive vocal range and sensual, soulful tone captivate us in this very raw, real and honest body of work.
The Journal is available to buy or stream on all digital platforms worldwide.

Deina offers strong and soulful vocals over the r&b and reggae fused instrumental with lyrics that offer hope and strength for women and men suffering with fertility problems, loss of children and miscarriages.
The lyrics identify with anyone struggling and Deina asks those suffering to take their time and be strong; a message which may well be needed for many this Mother’s Day.
